On Thursday night September 12, 2019 Pearson Koutcher Law partners, Eric Pearson and Jon Koutcher, held a “town hall” style meeting for IBEW Local 614 to discuss work-related hearing loss claims and asbestos exposure, mesothelioma and lung cancer. IBEW Local 614 consists of members employed by Exelon / PECO Energy, Veolia Energy, and Penske. Jon began the event by informing the membership, both current employees as well as retirees, of their rights to receive benefits for occupational hearing loss from being exposed to high levels of noise at work. Jon explained how the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation laws provide money damages to workers whose job has caused hearing loss and payment for doctor visits and hearing aids at no out of pocket cost to the worker. The simple process of how to get their hearing tested was described. Jon and Eric concluded by answering the various questions the audience had. Pearson Koutcher Law introduced Bethann Kagan of Shein Law. Ms. Kagan is an experienced lawyer who only handles asbestosis, mesothelioma and lung cancer cases. She explained how very important it is that the members get screened since so many of them have been exposed to harmful agents. She is following up with each member individually to make certain that they are properly informed of their rights. This extremely well-attended information meeting was so well received and felt to be so valuable that another meeting has been scheduled for October.
